Welcome back, explorers! Today marks the release of CMD v7.1 - Scary Chambers, a smaller but atmospheric update that introduces an entirely new structure, a new way to obtain certain discs, and the first steps toward future technical improvements.

Let’s dive deeper into the dark…



🕳️ Enter the Underchamber


The star of this update is the Underchamber — a dark, twisted, dungeon-crawler-inspired counterpart to the Trial Chambers. It keeps the spirit of underground exploration while creating a sinister new environment for music hunters.



📍 Where It Generates


The Underchamber appears deep in the Overworld, almost always below Y=0, lurking in the same layer of ancient stone and hidden ruins as Trial Chambers.



🔧 What Makes It Different?


While built on the Trial Chambers’ framework, the Underchamber stands apart with:


  • Retextured visuals giving the structure a gloomy, cursed aesthetic

  • Unique room types, including the standout, like:

    • 💧 The Quardian / Underwater Chamber — a soaked, eerie arena with its own environmental challenges

  • Music-themed vault loot, replacing standard rewards with CMD-specific musical goodies

  • A new alternative acquisition method for certain discs

🎵 New Ways to Obtain Undertale Discs


Although Scary Chambers adds no new discs (due to time constraints), the Underchamber now serves as a new path for non-Lite users to obtain the Undertale discs — a more adventurous alternative to previous methods.



🛠️ Technical Notes



🗂️ Datapack & Resource Pack Systems


No major structural changes were made to CMD’s datapack or resource pack logic in this update.



✂️ Resource Pack Compression Begins


To address Modrinth’s file-size limits (which currently prevent the Global version of the RP from being uploaded), some early compression has begun:

  • Several discs in non-LITE versions have now been compressed

  • Quality impact should be negligible — but we’ll monitor feedback

  • More compression work will continue gradually in future updates


This is a first step, not a full overhaul.

❄️ A Cold Wind Blows… (Winter Update Tease)


Although Scary Chambers doesn’t include new discs, the next update absolutely will.

The upcoming winter update — CMD v8 — will bring:

  • ❄️ A seasonal theme

  • 🎵 New music discs

  • 🎁 A very different tone compared to the darkness of the Underchamber


More details will be revealed soon… but you might want to bring a coat. Winter is coming to CMD.
